Look, this is one of those movies that exists because R.L. Stine's name was on it and someone needed content for the DVD bargain bin in 2008. The ratings tell the story: 4.9 on IMDb, 2.7 on Letterboxd, 60% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. That's rough.
The premise isn't terrible—kid helps ghosts, ghosts help kid—but the execution is direct-to-DVD quality that hasn't aged well. The 'make me popular' angle is also a bit icky, teaching kids that friendships are transactional rather than about being your authentic self.
If your 8-year-old is obsessed with all things Goosebumps and begging to watch every R.L. Stine adaptation, fine, throw it on. But there are so many better family-friendly spooky options (Casper, Halloweentown, even the actual Goosebumps movie from 2015) that you're better off steering them elsewhere. This one's a skip unless you've literally exhausted every other option.
