This is a perfectly fine show that teaches actual skills with competent instruction and gentle humor. James May is likeable and patient, and you'll probably learn something useful.
But let's be real: most modern kids will find this boring. It's slow-paced, very British, and from 2010, which might as well be the Victorian era in kid-years. The 'manly skills' premise is also a bit eye-roll-inducing, even if May executes it with self-awareness.
Where this really works is as background viewing for teens and adults, or as father-kid project inspiration. If your 13-year-old is into making things and has the patience for instructional content, great. If they're used to TikTok pacing, they'll be asleep in five minutes.
Available free with ads on multiple platforms, so low commitment to try an episode. Just don't expect your kids to binge it.
