Hidden is one of those movies where critics saw craftsmanship and audiences saw 'meh.' The 83% critic score tells you it's technically well-made with decent performances, but that 6.4 IMDb and 3.1 Letterboxd rating? That's the sound of people shrugging.
The bomb shelter survival premise has potential, but by 2015 we'd seen this rodeo before. The family-in-crisis angle offers some emotional stakes, but the horror/thriller genre demands sustained fear and tension that makes this fundamentally not wholesome viewing. It's scary on purpose, which is fine for older teens who actively want that experience.
The real question is: why watch this over better entries in the contained-thriller genre? The audience-critic split suggests critics appreciated the execution while regular viewers found it forgettable. Unless your teen specifically loves claustrophobic horror or you're doing a deep dive on outbreak movies, there are more enriching (and more entertaining) options out there.
