Here's the deal: Fort Tilden is one of those indie darlings that film critics adored (91%!) while actual humans who paid to watch it were miserable (47% audience score). It's a deliberate cringe-fest about two entitled, narcissistic millennials who treat everyone around them like garbage on their way to the beach.
The film has zero interest in making you feel good or showing character growth—it's pure satirical observation of privilege and selfishness. That's a valid artistic choice, but it makes for an actively unpleasant viewing experience for most people.
The 17+ rating means mature content throughout, so this is absolutely not for families or teens. And even for adults, that 5.6 IMDb rating tells you what you need to know: most people wished they'd spent their 90 minutes doing literally anything else.
If you're a film student studying indie comedy or you genuinely love uncomfortable satire where you hate-watch terrible people, maybe give it a shot. Everyone else? There are about 10,000 better ways to spend your evening. The 2014 millennial culture commentary already feels dated anyway.
