Look, the heart is in the right place. A boy breaking gender stereotypes to pursue culinary arts? That's great! A supportive mom and eventual dad redemption arc? Also great!
But here's the reality: this is a 2003 Disney Channel original movie, and it shows. The acting is stiff, the production feels like a high school play, and the 48% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes tells you everything you need to know about watchability. Even with a positive message, it's borderline painful to sit through by 2025 standards.
If your 7-year-old is obsessed with cooking shows and doesn't mind that it looks like it was filmed on a camcorder, go for it. Otherwise, there are better ways to explore gender stereotypes and following your passion—like literally any Pixar movie made in the last decade. The WISE components are decent, but the entertainment penalty is real.
