If you’re expecting a narrative-heavy RPG where you follow Paul Atreides around, look elsewhere. Dune: Awakening is an alternate-history sandbox. It asks: 'What if you were just some guy on Arrakis trying not to die?' The answer involves a lot of digging, harvesting, and looking over your shoulder.
Mechanically, the game is a triumph of systems. The way water acts as both a health bar and a currency is brilliant. You don't just 'have' water; you have to manage your stillsuit, stay in the shade, and hunt for moisture. For a kid who enjoys spreadsheets or complex LEGO builds, this kind of systems-thinking is pure catnip.
