Let's be real: this is a relic. Doug's 1st Movie was a transparent attempt to cash in on Nickelodeon's TV success, and it failed spectacularly. With a 26% on Rotten Tomatoes and a dismal 4.9 on IMDb, even nostalgic millennials couldn't find much to love here.
The movie is perfectly safe and has wholesome messages about friendship and acceptance, but it's boring. The animation looks cheap even by 1999 standards, the story drags, and the humor falls flat. Modern kids raised on Pixar, Spider-Verse, and high-quality streaming animation will find this nearly unwatchable.
If your 6-year-old is a die-hard Doug fan from watching the show on Disney+, maybe—MAYBE—they'll sit through this once. But there are dozens of better options for teaching the same lessons while actually entertaining your kid. This one's a skip unless you're on a very specific nostalgia trip.
