Caddo Lake is a competent but not exceptional mystery thriller that's getting decent reviews for its atmosphere and narrative ambition. But let's be clear: this is NOT family viewing.
The premise alone—a missing 8-year-old, deaths, disappearances, broken families—makes this heavy, tense viewing that will genuinely upset younger kids and even many teens. The 13+ rating feels aggressive; this is really 15+ material for emotionally mature teens who actively seek out dark thrillers.
For that specific audience, it's fine—atmospheric, reasonably well-crafted, engaging enough. But it's not going to change anyone's life, and the mixed critical reception (Metacritic 55 despite decent audience scores) suggests it's middle-of-the-road genre fare. If your older teen loves slow-burn mysteries and Southern Gothic vibes, go for it. Everyone else can skip without missing much.
