Hideout is the fifth book in the Swindle series, but it stands on its own well enough. It’s a fast, funny caper that treats kids like the smartest people in the room. If your kid liked the movie 'Ocean's Eleven' or just really loves dogs and outsmarting authority figures, this is a slam dunk. It’s not 'deep' literature, but it’s high-quality fun that gets kids actually wanting to turn the page.
Best for ages 8 to 12. It’s the sweet spot for kids who want adventure and independence but aren't quite ready for the angst of young adult novels.
