This is a solid, safe middle-grade anthology that does exactly what it promises: gives kids a collection of relatable school stories from authors who've been there. It's not going to blow anyone's mind, but it's a comforting read for kids who need to know that everyone finds school awkward and challenging sometimes.
The real value here is in validation and conversation-starting. If your kid is struggling with a bully, feeling left out, or stressed about school, handing them a book where award-winning authors admit to their own cringe-worthy moments can be genuinely helpful. The short-story format is also clutch for reluctant readers—low commitment, high variety.
That said, it's not a must-own. This is a great library checkout or classroom read, but unless your kid is really into school-themed realistic fiction, it's not going to become a beloved favorite they return to again and again. Think of it as comfort food reading: warm, familiar, does the job, but not exactly memorable.
