Beck is one of those cult-favorite anime that music nerds absolutely love, and for good reason—it's a genuine, heartfelt story about what it takes to be in a band. The protagonist's journey from shy nobody to confident performer feels earned, not rushed.
That said, it's rated 17+ and that's not arbitrary. This has the fan service, sexual content, and mature themes typical of 2000s anime aimed at older teens. It's not gratuitous by anime standards, but it's there. Plus, it's 20+ years old now, so the animation style and pacing feel dated—modern teens used to rapid-fire storytelling might find it slow.
If you've got a 16-18 year old who's into music, learning an instrument, or just loves character-driven stories, this could be genuinely great. Just preview it first to make sure you're comfortable with the mature content. For younger teens, there are better music anime options that don't come with the 17+ baggage.
