This is a well-reviewed documentary about a genuinely wild story—a woman who created a fictional teenage author persona and fooled the literary world for years. It's intellectually engaging and raises fascinating questions about truth, art, and why we believe what we believe.
That said, it's niche. Unless your teen is into literary culture, true crime, or documentary deep-dives, they're probably not going to be interested. The story itself is fascinating, but the format is standard documentary fare—interviews, archival footage, talking heads.
For the right audience (older teens interested in media, psychology, or creative writing; adults who remember the JT LeRoy scandal), this is a solid watch. For everyone else, it's probably a pass. The WISE score reflects that it's well-made and thought-provoking, but limited in appeal and definitely not family viewing.
