Jim Gaffigan is the comedian you show your middle schooler when you want to introduce them to stand-up without worrying about what's going to come out of his mouth. This special is perfectly safe, perfectly clean, and perfectly... fine.
The problem is that 'fine' doesn't make for must-watch comedy. With a 6.9 on IMDb and 69% audience score, this lands squarely in 'meh' territory. The 2021-specific material was probably more resonant when it dropped, but comedy about a specific year ages faster than milk left on the counter.
If you want to watch Gaffigan with your family, this works—it's wholesome, inoffensive, and occasionally clever. But if you're looking for his best stuff, check out his earlier specials. This one feels like he phoned it in a bit during a rough year, which is understandable but doesn't make for exceptional comedy.
