I Spy is the kind of movie that makes you wonder how it got greenlit. A 15% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 35 on Metacritic tell the story: this is a lazy, formulaic spy comedy that wastes the talents of Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson on a script full of profanity, crude jokes, and zero imagination.
The PG-13 rating is accurate—there's enough language and sexual innuendo to keep it away from younger kids—but even teens who meet the age threshold will likely be bored. The action is forgettable, the humor is stale, and the whole thing feels like a direct-to-video release that somehow made it to theaters.
If your teen is desperate for a spy comedy, steer them toward something with actual wit (or at least competent execution). This one's a skip.
