Back to Life is the kind of show that gets perfect critic scores because it's doing something genuinely original and emotionally sophisticated. A woman returns home after 18 years in prison and has to rebuild her life while everyone knows what she did—it's uncomfortable, darkly funny, and deeply human.
But let's be crystal clear: this is not family viewing. It's rated 17+ for good reason, dealing with serious crime, imprisonment, and all the messy adult stuff that comes with that territory. The British dark comedy style means it's slow, dry, and emotionally heavy—think Fleabag meets Orange Is the New Black's more depressing cousin.
If you're an adult looking for something smart and different that will make you think (and squirm), this is excellent. If you're looking for something to watch with your teen who loves edgy content, maybe—but only if they're mature 17+. For everyone else, hard pass. The WISE score reflects that while this is quality television for adults, it's completely inappropriate for kids and has limited family application.
