Werewords is legitimately clever—it takes the familiar format of 20 Questions and adds just enough social deduction to make it feel fresh and strategic. The 10-minute rounds are perfect for families: quick enough to play before dinner, engaging enough that everyone actually wants to play again.
The genius is in the asymmetric information. The Seer knows the word and wants to help, but can't be too obvious or the Werewolf will identify them. The Werewolf knows the word too but wants to subtly derail the group. Everyone else is just trying to figure out what's going on. It creates these hilarious moments where someone asks a really good question and the Seer has to decide whether to enthusiastically nod or play it cool.
The app dependency is the only real downside—you need a device at the table, which some families avoid. But it solves the problem of word selection elegantly and provides scalable difficulty.
This is a solid party game that works across ages and gaming experience levels. It's not going to change your life, but it's a reliable 10 minutes of fun that'll get everyone talking and laughing. The awards are deserved.
