Let's be real: this is a video game tie-in anime from 2012 that even die-hard Mass Effect fans found forgettable. The 5.8/10 on IMDb and 2.8/5 on Letterboxd tell the story—it's just not very good.
The premise has potential: a young soldier facing impossible choices about who lives and dies during an alien invasion. But the execution is mediocre, the animation feels dated, and it exists primarily to fill in backstory for a character most players didn't care that much about anyway.
If your teen is deep into Mass Effect lore and has already played the games, sure, they might get something out of seeing Vega's origin story. But as standalone entertainment? Hard pass. The violence and dark themes require maturity, but the payoff isn't there. You're better off letting them replay the actual games or watch a good sci-fi film instead.
Bottom line: skippable even for the target audience, and definitely not worth introducing anyone to the Mass Effect universe through this entry point.
