Here's the deal: even if your teen is into dark anime and vampire stuff, this probably isn't worth your time. It's a 2003 adaptation that anime fans themselves call 'below average' and 'not as good as the visual novel.'
The violence is legitimately gory—IMDb's parent guide uses words like 'bloodbath' and 'decently gory,' which tracks with the 17+ rating. But the bigger issue is that it's just not good. A 6.8 on IMDb and 3.2 on Letterboxd tells you everything: mediocre pacing, weak ending, and dated animation.
If your older teen wants dark supernatural anime, there are dozens of better options from the past decade that are better written, better animated, and frankly more watchable. This one's for completists and nostalgic fans of the original visual novel only.
