Lost in Starlight is an interesting gamble—an animated romance about space exploration and separation that's trying to do something different than the usual kids' fare. The premise is solid: astronaut leaves for Mars, love gets complicated by millions of miles. It's emotionally mature without being inappropriate, which is refreshing.
The challenge? We don't have enough data yet to know if it's actually good. IMDb 7.1 and Letterboxd 3.9 are respectable but not spectacular. It could be a hidden gem that treats young viewers with respect, or it could be a well-intentioned slog that's too slow for modern attention spans.
If your kid is into space, romance, or big feelings—and isn't expecting action or comedy—this could be a meaningful watch. If they need explosions and jokes every five minutes, skip it. The themes about sacrifice and choosing between dreams and relationships are genuinely enriching for the right viewer.
Bottom line: Worth a shot if the premise resonates, but don't go in expecting Pixar-level magic. It's probably more 'thoughtful indie animation' than 'instant classic.'
