Look, if you're a millennial who grew up watching Ren & Stimpy and thought 'I wonder what happened to that show,' this documentary will answer that question in the most uncomfortable way possible. It's a well-made film that does important work examining how the animation industry enabled abusive behavior, but it's also a total bummer.
The documentary itself is solid—good interviews, fascinating archival footage, doesn't pull punches. But this is emphatically NOT family content. It's about a kids' show, but it's definitely not FOR kids (or teens, or even young adults). This is a serious examination of serious allegations against creator John Kricfalusi, including grooming of underage girls.
If you're interested in animation history, industry ethics, or the complicated question of what we do with art created by terrible people, this is worth your time. Just don't expect any of the joy the title promises.
