Look, I'll be straight with you: this movie is bad. Like, really bad. A 35% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and 2.7/5 on Letterboxd means even people who actively chose to watch an anime samurai fantasy spin-off of Bright came away disappointed.
The premise—ronin and orc protecting an elf child through feudal Japan—could've been cool. Exploring prejudice through fantasy races in a samurai setting has potential. But the execution is apparently so flat that nobody's recommending it. Not critics, not audiences, not anime fans.
The violence level means it's strictly for teens 15+, but even they deserve better entertainment. There are dozens of superior anime films on Netflix that blend action, fantasy, and meaningful themes without boring viewers to tears. Unless your teen is doing a completionist run of every Netflix anime ever made, this is an easy skip.
Life's too short for 2.7-star movies.
