Berserk is a 10/10 masterpiece for adult fans of dark fantasy, but as a recommendation for 'families,' it’s a total non-starter.
It is beautiful, haunting, and deeply moving, but it also contains some of the most disturbing content ever put to paper. If you're a parent who loves Dark Souls or Game of Thrones, read it yourself after the kids are in bed. Just don't leave it on the coffee table.
This is strictly for readers 18 and up. Don't let the 'comic book' format fool you; this is more intense than most R-rated movies.
There is a core of loyalty and resilience here, but it's buried under a mountain of trauma, betrayal, and nihilism. Not exactly 'feel-good' material.
