This is a solid, entertaining YA thriller with a genuinely weird and compelling hook. A girl who gets murdered every two years and wakes up fine? That's nightmare fuel that actually works as a plot device. Reichs (co-author of the Virals series) knows how to pace a mystery and drop breadcrumbs.
The WISE scores reflect what it is: a dark, violent-ish thriller that's imaginative and reasonably enriching for the genre, but definitely not wholesome or universally safe. If your teen loves dystopian YA and can handle repeated death scenes (think Hunger Games territory), they'll probably devour this. If they're sensitive to psychological horror or prefer lighter fare, hard pass.
The book came out in 2017 and holds up fine—it's not dated. Parents on Common Sense Media seem pretty chill about it for 7th grade and up, noting the violence isn't gratuitous and the language isn't excessive. It's the first in a series, so be prepared for cliffhangers and sequel requests.
Bottom line: A good pick for mature teen readers who want something darker and more complex than typical YA, but definitely not for the younger or more sensitive crowd.
