Batwoman had admirable goals—putting an out lesbian superhero front and center in a major DC property is genuinely important representation. But good intentions don't automatically make good TV.
The show suffered from the CW's typical superhero formula issues (melodrama, uneven pacing, TV-budget constraints) plus significant behind-the-scenes turbulence when Ruby Rose departed after one season. The 6.9 TMDB rating tells the story: it's not terrible, but it's not compelling either.
For families, this is a hard pass for anyone under mid-teens. The violence, dark themes, and mature content aren't appropriate for younger viewers, and there's no 'watch together' value here—it's not fun family superhero fare like early MCU films.
For older teens interested in LGBTQ+ representation in superhero media, it might be worth sampling, but set expectations accordingly. There are better-executed shows tackling similar themes, and better superhero shows if that's the primary draw. This one sits in an awkward middle ground—too mature for kids, too uneven for most teens to stick with.
